The Institute of Hellenic studies gathers together teachers, researchers and students from the University of Strasbourg in the area of ancient Greek. Its field covers the Greek language, literature and civilization from the Archaic period until the end of the Antiquity, as well as the legacy and reception of ancient Greek culture in the modern and contemporary world.
With the Institute of French Literature and the Institute of Latin studies, the Institute of Hellenic studies provides the education for the Bachelor of Arts in classics, Bachelor of Arts in humanities, Master of classical philology, Master in teaching professions - classics option, public competitive examination for secondary education (Agrégation) in classics and in grammar, Ph.D. in classics. It also offers optional courses in modern literature, historical sciences, philosophy and performing arts.
For the research and training to research the Institute of Hellenic studies relies on the Research Unit EA 3094 “Centre d’analyse des rhétoriques religieuses de l’Antiquité” (CARRA). The teachers and researchers of the Institute of Hellenic studies carry on an important research and publication activity. They are also involved in the direction of the research, as well as in the administrative tasks and collective responsibilities at the University of Strasbourg and at regional, national and international level.
